Bangkok – 18 August 2025 - MR. D.I.Y., a leading home improvement and lifestyle retailer, successfully concluded its first MR. D.I.Y. Art Competition 2025 under the theme “Identity and Diversity.” The awards ceremony recognized 18 exceptional artists from both student and public categories, with a total prize pool of more than 1,010,000 baht at Bangkok Art and Culture Center (BACC).
Mr. Arnupharp Kongmalai, Vice President of Marketing Department, MR. D.I.Y. Holding (Thailand) Public Company Limited, said, “The MR. D.I.Y. Art Competition was held for the first time and received an overwhelming response, with more than 1,000 entries submitted across both categories, marking another milestone for the Thai art scene. By providing a platform for emerging artists and art enthusiasts nationwide to express their perspectives and inspirations through works that reflect both personal identity and society, MR. D.I.Y. demonstrates its commitment to supporting the Thai art industry. This initiative underscores our determination to promote art as a driving force for social development while reinforcing our position as a brand that genuinely cares for and invests in society sustainably.”
The competition attracted more than 1,000 entries, with 18 winners announced at the awards ceremony. Winners in both categories received prizes of up to 200,000 baht. Highlights included:
“Pain is Temporary portrays the complexity of human emotions while addressing the issue of class. I was born into the working class; my father worked in construction. This made me realize that poverty affects not only our material lives, but also our emotions. Since childhood, I felt unable to access basic human needs, and that absence left wounds, hence the title of the work. The painting depicts a girl braiding her hair, with construction scaffolding behind her and a thin white cloth symbolizing my late father. I believe that poor people, too, seek happiness, and that desire is not wrong. Poverty is often seen only in material terms, houses or crowded communities, but I want to show that we share the same human needs as everyone else. This is who we are.” – Ms. Kritiya Reangrob
“I am originally from Betong District, Yala, and later moved to Bangkok for my studies. Living in the city brought me considerable struggles, and I sought a place that could heal me emotionally. I eventually discovered a modest community that is not luxurious or comfortable, but profoundly impactful. What I found was a way of life rooted in love, warmth, and mutual support, something I had been missing in Bangkok. This Muslim community became deeply meaningful to me. As a Muslim myself, I witnessed the richness of cultural identity and the deep connection between religion, belief, and faith, all of which are part of who I am. I chose to reflect these experiences and emotions through this series of works.” – Mr. Asmawee Karee
This exhibition, held over 13 days at both the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre and MunMun Gallery Srinakarin, welcomed more than 80,000 visitors and received widespread acclaim for its inclusivity and its powerful reflection of Thailand’s diverse perspectives.
